If you want to edit or make changes tо images, you should check out this Shell extension called XnShell. XnShell helps you convert, rotate, resize, etc. images from the right-click context menu. You do not have to open any image editing software to get these basic tasks done. Let’s take a look at its features and how it works.
Convert, resize, rotate, edit images using Context Menu
XnShell appears only in the context menu, and it does the job pretty well. Talking about some specific features and options, you should check out the following list-
- Image preview: It shows the image preview alongside the resolution and file size.
- Convert into: It shows a direct option to convert images to another format. If you have a .png image and you want to convert it to .jpg, you can do that from the context menu.
- Convert: If the desired format is not appearing in the “Convert into” section, you can choose this option to get more file extensions.
- Resize: In case you want to change the dimension of an image, you can do that from here. It is possible to choose an option among 320×200, 640×480, 800×600, 1024, 50%, and 25%.
- Rotate: If an image doesn’t have the correct orientation, you can change that from here. You can choose an option among -90° left, +90° right, 180°, flip horizontal, flip vertical, rotate based on EXIF tag.

Using XnShell for PC
Download the setup file based on your system architecture. After installing, you do not need to change any option unless or until you want to get different options than the default one. If you’re going to convert an image to a different format, right-click on it and select Convert into option.
After that, you have to choose a format according to your requirements.
If you want to resize an image, the Resize option will do the job. Here you can find various dimensions and percentages that you can select.
If you want to add or edit the metadata or EXIF data of your image, the Edit IPTC option will do the job. After selecting this option, you can find a window where you need to enter all the details.
Let’s assume that you want to copy an image to your clipboard and paste it in an image editing tool such as Photoshop. In that case, you can use the Copy to Clipboard option. It copies the whole image to your editor instead of the standard Cut-Copy-Paste.
XnShell options and settings
If you do not like to show an option in the context menu, you can use the settings panel to remove it. For that, you can choose the Options menu from the list. After that, the following window will appear-
From here, you can remove or add a tick in the checkbox to hide or show an option. For example, if you do not need the Set Wallpaper as option, you can remove the tick from the respective checkbox and click on the OK button.
