We have seen how to disable the Toast Notifications in Windows 10. Today we will see how to disable the Live Tile Notifications in Windows 10/8. Whenever an app has some new information to tell you, it displays them in the form of a live display – text or image – on the tile on the Start Screen. This looks pretty cool and also keeps you abreast of the latest happening on that subject. But to some, it a cause for distraction, and for yet others, it may mean undue wastage of bandwidth.

Turn Off Live Tile Notifications for individual Tile

To turn off Live Tile Notifications for an individual Tile in Windows 10:

1. Open the Start Menu
2. Locate the Live Tile whose notifications you want to remove
3. Right-click on it
4. Select More
5. Select Turn Live Tile Off.

In Windows 8.1, you need to do is, while on your Start Screen, right-click on the Tile, whose live notifications you want to turn off.

At the bottom, In Windows 8, you will see the option to Turn Live Tile Off. Clicking on it will turn off the live tile notifications. In Windows 8.1, you will see a context menu open.

If you wish to turn on back the live notifications, right-click on the tile and this time you will see the option to Turn live tile on.

Disable Tile Notifications for all Tiles

If you wish to turn off tile notifications for all the tiles in Windows 10, you can do so using the Group Policy Editor. Type gpedit.msc in start screen search and hit Enter to open it. Navigate to the following policy setting:

If you Disable or Do Not Configure this policy setting, tile and badge notifications are enabled and can be turned off by the administrator or user.

No reboots or service restarts are required for this policy setting to take effect.

Clear Old Live Tile Notifications History

If you like the live tile notification feature and chose to have it continue to be enabled as per the default settings, you will notice that over a period of time, you will continue to see even older notifications.

If you wish, you can set your Windows to clear these old live tile notifications history on exit. To do so go to the following policy setting:

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar

Now in the right pane, double-click on Clear history of tile notifications on exit, and in the Settings box which opens, click on Enabled > Apply. You will now see only the latest fresh notifications on the tile.

If you Enable this setting, the system deletes tile notifications when the user logs off. As a result, the Tiles in the start view will always show their default content when the user logs on. In addition, any cached versions of these notifications will be cleared when the user logs off. If you Disable or Do Not Configure this setting, the system retains notifications, and when a user logs on, the tiles appear just as they did when the user logged off, including the history of previous notifications for each tile.

This setting does not prevent new notifications from appearing, however. So you will see fresh notifications on the start screen every time.
