What would life be without games? A boring experience if you ask us. 🙂 As many of our readers own and use iPhones and iPаds, and some of us here at Digital Citizen also do, we thought it would be a good idea to share with you some of our favorite free games for iOS. The App Store has so many games that it is tough to compile a list of just a few best, but here are the ones we deem worthy to play:
1. Fortnite
Fortnite is a battle-royale game that it is almost impossible for you not to have heard about. It is developed by Epic Games, which is the company that also created Unreal Engine and the Unreal Tournament game. In Fortnite, 100 players are stranded on an island and are fighting against each other until the last one stands. During the battle, you must kill the others before they kill you, obviously :), using weapons of all kinds, health packs, and other stuff. You can also build things using crafting materials which you gather during the game by using a pickaxe for things such as cutting trees down or breaking walls. Fortnite is free-to-play, but it also lets you convert real money into virtual money which you can then use to buy things in the game.

2. Brawl Stars
Brawl Stars is a fast-paced multiplayer game in which you can battle solo or with your friends, in matches that last less than 3 minutes. You can play and upgrade various characters, called Brawlers, each with its own super abilities. You can also customize your Brawler with unique skins that make you stand out of the crowd. To not get bored easily, there are many multiplayer battle modes to choose from, such as Gem Grab (3 vs. 3), Showdown (Solo/Duo), Bounty (3 vs. 3), Heist (3 vs. 3), Brawl Ball (3 vs. 3), and also Special Events. Brawl Stars is a free-to-play game, but it also offers in-game purchases. However, it does not stop you from evolving and advancing on the leaderboards, even if you do not pay any money.

3. PUBG Mobile
PUBG or PlayerUnkown's BattleGrounds is the original battle royale game, and it is also available on iOS devices. In PUBG, there are 100 players that are all fighting for survival on an isolated island. You have to find and use weapons, ammunition, armor, vehicles and other types of supplies, to kill everyone else, before the battle zone shrinks and kills you, or the other players do. PUBG Mobile is free to play, but it also includes in-game purchases, which cost money.

4. Asphalt 9: Legends
Asphalt 9: Legends is one of the most popular car racing games for Windows 10 and Android, and it is also available in Apple's App Store. It features over 70 tracks from all over the world, on which you can race using various hypercars from manufacturers such as Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini. The visuals are stunningly beautiful, with HDR and particle effects, and the performance is excellent even on lower-specced iPhones - our iPhone SE manages to run this game flawlessly. Asphalt 9: Legends is free-to-play but offer in-game microtransactions also, although you can play without spending any real money if you do not want to.

5. Dungeon Hunter 5
Dungeon Hunter 5 is an action-RPG game that is both challenging and addictive. The gameplay is straightforward, as you have to guide your hero, a bounty hunter, in a fantasy world, the Kingdom of Valenthia. There are no character classes, but you can develop the way your character fights by equipping it with various armor types and weapons. Besides the single-player missions, you can also participate in events, where you can win unique materials that help fuse and evolve your gear. Furthermore, you can use your friends or other players as allies in the cooperative gameplay to assist you throughout the journeys. This is a highly addictive game for those of you who love role-playing games, featuring great graphics, a lot of NPC character interaction and, of course, a substantial amount of hacking and slashing. The game also comes with in-app purchases to make your life easier in the game, but you can also play without spending a dime.

6. Candy Crush Saga
Everybody knows Candy Crush Saga, and most of us have played this game or at least a very similar one, at least once in our lives. Candy Crush Saga is a free to play puzzle adventure game that is fun and colorful. It has beautiful graphics, and it is easy to play, although, on the higher levels, the difficulty increases significantly. Getting past more complex levels can be tough and sometimes frustrating, but all of them are doable. Also, if you do not have enough patience to finish a particular level, the game also has in-app purchases which can help you while playing.

7. Microsoft Solitaire Collection
Microsoft Solitaire Collection is a free-to-play app that offers you the most popular solitaire card games: Klondike (the classic Solitaire), Spider, Freecell, Pyramid, and TriPeaks. The game has daily challenges and promises to give you only solvable games. There are badges and rewards to get also, so if you like to play Solitaire games, you will definitely like Microsoft Solitaire Collection. The game is completely free-to-play, but if you do not like to see any ads, you can buy a premium subscription.

8. ARK: Survival Evolved
If you like dinosaurs, you will love ARK: Survival Evolved! This is an MMORPG game that is free to play and throws you into a huge world where you will encounter over 80 unique dinosaurs and other extinct creatures from tens and hundred millions of years ago. You must capture and tame them, and then train, ride and breed as you see fit. The game also lets you find friends and form tribes, and then work together to build defenses against mega-predators and humans (which are another kind of mega-predators :). ARK: Survival Evolved is free but also offers a premium subscription.

9. World of Tanks Blitz
Wargaming's games are probably some of the best and most popular games in the world right now, regardless of whether we are talking about the PC world or the mobile world. World of Tanks Blitz is a free-to-play mobile action shooter in which you control tanks and fight in teams to destroy your enemies, which are other players. World of Tanks Blitz is available for Windows 10, Android and also for iOS. It offers over 300 tanks from Germany to the United Kingdom, to Russia and so on, and although you can play it for free, you can also use real money to upgrade your (tanks) garage.

10. Minion Rush
This hilarious game is a must-have for all the minion lovers. Minion Rush is a typical runner-type game where you play as a cute minion that has to jump, roll and dodge obstacles, and collect bananas. The main in-game currency is bananas which you can use to purchase an upgrade, weapons, and outfits for your little minion. The game features hundreds of missions which are full of fun surprises and tricky obstacles. You can run through recognizable locations from the movie, such as Gru's lab, Bratt's Lair or the Egyptian Pyramids. The gameplay is enjoyable and requires you to spend quite a lot of time to progress through it quickly. Of course, you can use real money to make in-app purchases that help you finish missions at a faster pace and with more significant achievements.
