Chrome 64-bit or Chrome 32-bit: Download the version you want, for Windows 10 or older
If you download Google Chrome from places other than its officіal website, you might download the wrong version, with bundled extrаs which you might not want. For example, you may have Windows 10 on 64-bit and install Chrome on 32-bit. Also, you maу use an older version of Windows like Windowѕ XP or Windows Viѕta, and yoυ want a Google Chromе version that still works оn that operating system. If you want to download a specifiс version of Chrome, read thіs tutorіal:
Download Chrome 64-bit
If you need to download Google Chrome 64-bit, it is best that you go to its official website. There, click or tap the Download Chrome button.
A prompt is shown, with details about what you are about to download. First, look for the entry that tells you for what operating system Chrome is going to be downloaded:
- if you are using a 64-bit version of Windows, you should see Windows 10/8.1/8/7 64-bit
- if you are using a 32-bit version of Windows, you should see Windows 10/8.1/8/7 32-bit
If Google recommends that you download the 64-bit version, it is all good: this is the version you want. Check whether you want to send usage statistics and crash reports to Google automatically, and press "Accept and Install." Then, you get to download a ChromeSetup.exe file, which you need to run, to install Google Chrome 64-bit.
If Google recommends that you download the 32-bit version, but you want the 64-bit version, it is unfortunate, but you cannot install it on your PC or device. Why is that, you may wonder? The answer is that 32-bit operating systems cannot run 64-bit apps. Only the opposite is true. However, that does not mean that you cannot download the installer for the 64-bit version of Google Chrome. Who knows: maybe you want to install it on another PC.
If Google recommends the 32-bit version, but you want the 64-bit version, close this prompt and scroll down to the footer. There, in the Chrome Family section, click or tap "Other Platforms."
In the list of options displayed by the web page, click or tap the link called "Windows 10/8.1/8/7 64-bit" from the "Download for another desktop OS" section.
Specify whether you want to send usage statistics and crash reports to Google, and then press "Accept and Install." The file you get to download is called ChromeSetup.exe and installs Google Chrome for 64-bit systems.
Download Chrome 32-bit
If you want to download Google Chrome 32-bit, visit Chrome's official website. There, click or tap the Download Chrome button.
In the prompt that appears, you can see details about what you are going to download. Look for the entry that tells you for what operating system Chrome is going to be downloaded:
- if you are using a 64-bit version of Windows 10, you should see Windows 10/8.1/8/7 64-bit
- if you are using a 32-bit version of Windows 10, you should see Windows 10/8.1/8/7 32-bit
If Google recommends the 32-bit version, everything is well: this is the version that you want. Check whether you want to send usage statistics and crash reports to Google automatically, and press "Accept and Install." Then, you get to download a ChromeSetup.exe file, which you need to run, to install Google Chrome 32-bit.
If Google recommends the 64-bit version, but you want the 32-bit version, close the prompt and scroll down until you reach the footer. There, in the Chrome Family section, click or tap "Other Platforms."
In the list of options displayed by the web page, click or tap the link called "Windows 10/8.1/8/7 32-bit" from the "Download for another desktop OS" section.
Specify whether you want to send usage statistics and crash reports to Google, and then press "Accept and Install." The file you get to download is called ChromeSetup.exe. Run it, and you get to install Google Chrome 32-bit.
How to download a different version of Chrome than what Google recommends
If you want a different version of Chrome than what Google recommends, close the Download Chrome for Windows prompt shown in the previous sections. Then, scroll down the official page to the bottom. There, look for the Chrome Family column of options. Click or tap "Other Platforms."
Now you see a list with different download options. You can choose to download Chrome 32-bit or 64-bit, Chrome for older versions of Windows, like Windows XP and Windows Vista, or Chrome for non-Microsoft operating systems such as Android, iOS, Linux, and Mac OS.
Click or tap the version that you want to download, and save the Chrome setup file on your computer. You can then use it to install the Chrome version that you want, where you want.
How to see what version of Google Chrome you have installed
If you want to double check that you installed the version of Google Chrome that you wanted, you can do so. Start Google Chrome and click or tap the "Customize and control Google Chrome" button on the top-right corner. It looks like three vertical dots. In the menu that is displayed, go to Help and then to "About Google Chrome."
A new tab is loaded, showing whether Google Chrome is up to date or not, and the exact version installed. For example, below, we had version 72 installed, an official build from Google, for 64-bit systems.
What version of Google Chrome did you install?
