(battery percentage)
(Battery widget)
(Add Widget)
(Done)
(Done)
(Dark Mode)
How to show the battery percentage on the iPhone and iPad
Are you wondering how to display the battery percentage on your new iPhone 12 or iPhone 13? Or maybe you bought a used iPhone, and you can’t locate the battery percentage information? Then you’ve come to the right рlace. In this article, we describe how tо turn on the battery percentage on iPads and older iPhones and how to check the information on the new generаtion of iPhones. All this, on the new iOS 15. But first, some bad news for owners of new iPhones:
How to display the battery percentage on an iPhone X and later (including iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13)
On the iPhone models that have a notch (iPhone X and newer), possibly due to the limited space available, the battery percentage is not displayed in the top right corner. This is just one of the things we hate about iPhones right now. If you ask us, it could have been squeezed inside the battery icon. Since there is no way of displaying the percentage in its “usual” location, let’s see how to get the information anyway:
Check the battery percentage from the Control Center
The most straightforward way to see the battery percentage is by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen. The Control Center is displayed, and in the upper right corner, you can find the “elusive” battery percentage.
Check the battery percentage in the Control Center on iPhone 12
TIP: You can swipe down to see the battery percentage even when the phone is locked.
Check the battery percentage by using a charger
Another quick way of finding out exactly how much power your iPhone has left is to plug it into a charger. For a brief moment when you start charging your iPhone, you can see the battery percentage is shown on its screen.
Start charging your iPhone, and the battery percentage is briefly displayed
Display the battery percentage on the Widgets screen or on the Home screen
A method that works on all iPhone models, old and new, is to check the Battery widget on the lock screen. To do that, switch to the widgets screen by swiping to the right from the lock screen or from the leftmost Home screen. Scroll the list of widgets until you see the Battery widget.
Swipe right to get to the Widgets page and locate the Battery widget
If you can’t see the widget, you can easily add it. First, unlock your iPhone, then go to the widgets screen, scroll to the bottom, and tap the Edit button. Next, tap on the plus sign in the top left corner of the screen.
Tap on Edit, then on the Plus sign to add a new widget
On the Add Widgets screen, scroll until you find the widget called Batteries, then tap on it. On the next screen, tap on Add Widget.
Locate the Batteries widget section, tap on it, then tap on Add Widget
This action drops a Battery widget on the widget page. You can reposition it (or any other widget) by tapping and holding, then dragging the widget to the position you want. If you want to position the widget on another screen, read on, otherwise, press Done.
Drag the widget to any position, then tap Done
If, instead, you drag the widget towards the right edge of the screen, you can position it on any of the Home screens (it will displace existing icons). Press Done when you’re satisfied.
Place a widget on another page on the iPhone
TIP: The iOS interface used for this article is in Dark Mode. If you like the colors, read our guide on how to enable the Dark Mode on your iPhone.
How to display the battery percentage on an iPad, an iPhone SE, iPhone 8, iPhone 7, or older Apple mobile devices
If you own an iPad, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone SE, or any other old model of iPhone, the battery percentage is shown by default next to the battery icon, in the top-right corner of the screen. If it’s missing, it may be because the setting is disabled, so let’s enable it. First, open the Settings app. On the Settings screen, locate the Battery entry and tap on it. On the Battery page, turn on the switch called Battery Percentage. Once you do that, your iPhone or iPad starts showing the battery percentage next to the battery icon.
Enable the display of battery percentage on iPads and older iPhones
Of course, just like with other iPhones, you can add a Battery widget to the Home screen or to the Widgets page. Just follow the instructions in the previous section.
Do you like seeing the battery percentage on your iPhone or iPad?
We admit, due to the issues that older iPhones had with battery life, we developed low battery anxiety. While we hope you don’t have the symptoms, we do wonder if you feel the need to have the percentage displayed at all times or if you only check it when the battery indicator goes in the red.
