9 ways to open the Disk Management tool in Windows (all versions)
All modern versions of Windows include the handy Disk Management utility. It allows you to create, resize and delete partitions as you want, directly from Windows. In this article, we show you all the methods we know for opening the Disk Management in Windows 10, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Without further ado, let's get started:
NOTE: This guide covers Windows 10, Windows 7, and Windows 8.1. Some methods work in all three versions of Windows, others just in one or two. 1. Use search (all Windows versions)
One of the easiest ways to launch anything in Windows is to use the search. In Windows 10, enter the words "disk management" in the search field on the taskbar and then click or tap "Create and format hard disk partitions."
Also in Windows 7, the fastest way to launch Disk Management is to use the search feature from the Start Menu. Enter the words "disk management" and then click the "Create and format hard disk partitions" search result.
In Windows 8.1, you can use the search function by switching to the Start screen and then start typing "disk management." Once the search results are shown, click or tap "Create and format hard disk partitions."
2. Use Cortana (Windows 10 only)
In Windows 10, you can use your voice to talk to Cortana: on the right side of the search box from your taskbar, click or tap on the microphone icon to make Cortana listen to you. Alternatively, you can also say "Hey Cortana," if you enabled this feature of hers. Then, say "Start Disk Management."

3. Use the WinX menu (Windows 10 and Windows 8.1)
In Windows 10 and Windows 8.1, another fast way to launch Disk Management is to use the power user menu. First open the power user menu, with a right-click or long tap on the Start Menu button. You can also press the Win + X keys on your keyboard if you prefer. Then, click or tap on the Disk Management option from the menu.
4. Use the Control Panel (all Windows versions)
Another way to open Disk Management in all Windows version is to do it from the Control Panel. Open Control Panel, go to "System and Security" and then click or tap on the "Create and format hard disk partitions" link from the "Administrative Tools" section.
5. Create a shortcut and pin it on your desktop (all Windows versions)
You can also create a shortcut for Disk Management and place it on your desktop or anywhere else you want it. When you create the shortcut, use the command diskmgmt.msc as its target.

6. Use the Run window (all Windows versions)
The old Run window is often offering the quickest methods to open system tools in Windows. If you like it, you can also use it to open Disk Management. Press the Win + R keys on your keyboard to open Run, enter the command diskmgmt.msc, and then press Enter or OK.
7. Use Command Prompt or PowerShell (all Windows versions)
You can also open Disk Management from inside Command Prompt or PowerShell. Just type the command diskmgmt.msc and press Enter on your keyboard.
8. Use Task Manager (all Windows versions)
The Task Manager can also be used for launching the Disk Management tool in Windows. First press the Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys to open Task Manager. If you are doing this on a Windows 10 or Windows 8.1 PC, and the Task Manager opens up in its compact mode, click or tap on "More details." Then, open the File menu, select "Run new task," and type the command diskmgmt.msc in the "Create new task" window. Finally, press Enter on your keyboard or click or tap OK.
9. Use the Computer Management console (all Windows versions)
In all versions of Windows, Disk Management can also be accessed via the more complex Computer Management console. Start by opening Computer Management: a quick way to do that is to press the Win + X keys on your keyboard and then click or tap on the Computer Management shortcut from the WinX menu.
